What we need

Your tax-deductible donation today will bring our community closer to the dream of housing and support for ALL women and children in Taos County who face the uncertainty, fear, disillusionment, struggle, and the instability of homelessness.
HEART of Taos is completing renovations and preparing to open HEART House, the first ever shared transitional living residence in Taos County.

As a transitional “extended family” shared residence for women, children and eventually their pets, HEART House will provide loving shelter for up to 15 residents who will share daily responsibilities and a determination to regain self-sufficiency, with the support of our trained in-house staff and proven step-by-step support program.

Pre-Opening TOURS OF HEART House available starting late June.

Make a Difference

We are Community Funded!

In order to provide short-term assistance, housing and support services for some of the most vulnerable members of our community — homeless women, their children and pets — we rely entirely on community support. JOIN TEAMHEART to provide critical monthly support of any amount or use the DONATE button to make a one-time or recurring donation today. Transitioning out of homelessness is a process that can take months or even years. During this time, each woman requires various types of assistance, Even when she has secured employment and is ready to rent a home of her own, she struggles not only to locate an affordable home but also must compete against stronger applicants. H.E.A.R.T.of Taos accompanies each woman every step of the way from short-term shelter and basic needs to transitional housing and rental assistance. If you would like your donation to go specifically to homelessness prevention services, please email us (support@heartoftaos.org) after you make your online donation and let us know! Otherwise, donations will be applied where need is greatest.

We HEART Volunteers

Would you like to become part of the solution for Taos women, children and their pets facing homelessness? Consider volunteering at HEART.

HEART of Taos is seeking kind, gentle, accepting, and friendly female volunteers for our new Welcome Orientation/ Greeter Program starting in March.

Volunteer Greeters will answer the doorbell, welcome guests, help them fill out paperwork, conduct a short “Welcome to HEART” orientation, offer coffee/tea/protein bars and may assist women in selecting clothes from our free boutique and/or help them at our computer station and generally make our guests seeking assistance feel supported, cared for and no longer alone.

Full training will be provided.

Other volunteer opportunities:

  • Interview for a HEART of Taos Board of Directors and Advisory Board position – contribute your professional experience, leadership expertise and be involved in our various fundraising efforts
  • Join our phone tree for periodic assistance: direct mail campaigns, handyperson gigs and help with heavier lifting, picking up furniture donations or helping clients move
  • Provide childcare during our Empowerment Circles/Support Groups (early evenings) or short-term child care gigs for women transitioning out of homelessness.

For more information and to receive our volunteer packet, please call Lisa: 575-776-4245.
